Creating Strategy for Autism Therapy Education
Autism Therapy Education is Very Expensive, How to Get Around It?
Ideally, therapy for children with Autism is carried out 30-40 hours a week. With hourly rates costing hundreds of thousands of rupiah, it is very hard for parents, especially during a pandemic like today. One strategy that can be tried is to:
- Determine what abilities are most urgent/important for children to master, for example: eating, bathing or wearing clothes.
- Decide who will be involved to teach this skill, for example; mother, father, brother, sister, grandmother, caregiver, et cetera.
- Find the information about how to teach these skills. There are many free options on social media and the internet.
- Focus on simple independent skills, but it is necessary for children to do it every day, for the rest of their life and without help.
- Give rewards to children and whoever teaches them when this ability is successfully carried out.
- Teaching independent abilities is very important for anyone and anywhere. Easy to do and does not have to be guided by a therapist.
- If the eight essential independence (bathing, eating, defecating, urinating, wearing clothes, taking off clothes, taking off shoes, and putting on shoes) can be done, start by teaching children games/activities that are fun and necessary for their future, for example, cooking, washing, sports, et cetera.
